Short Sale (HAFA) Sellers May Receive Money At Closing
The federal government is helping borrowers in providing an alternative way to avoid foreclosure and also receive a $3,000 incentive for relocation costs. This is all due to the HAFA (Home Affordable Foreclosure Alternative) program.
The HAFA program is available for homeowners who: (1) do not qualify for a trial mortgage modification under the Making Home Affordable Program; (2) do not successfully complete the trial period for their modification; (3) miss at least two consecutive payments during their modification period; or (4) request a short sale or deed-in-lieu of foreclosure.
In July 2010, I became a HAFA Certified Specialist and have embraced the program by spreading the word to those prospective Short Sale Sellers who may be unaware of the program.
By the way, there is never a fee to get assistance or information about this program. If you are interested, you can obtain information from your lender, a HUD-approved housing counselor or your local Certified HAFA Specialist.
